The bare bones story for ‘Destiny 2’ going into ‘final form’

Destiny YouTuber MyNameisByf just released his absolutely epic, 10-hour recap of the entire story of Destiny 1 and 2 ahead of the release of the game’s final Light and Darkness expansion on Tuesday. I’ve been on the job for a few hours and surprisingly, it’s the kind of high quality work he always delivers.

I absolutely recommend everyone to watch it, but…it’s obviously a tall order and we’re now about 72 hours from release, so I’d understand if you can’t dedicate 10 of them to a video. As such, I wanted to write a core piece here about the story that I think will set you up for the finale.

This is NO a full part of the timeline. Not at all. This is mostly about the last year of content and what I think are the most essential elements going into Final Form based on what we know about it from recent events and marketing. So let’s go. Bullet points baby!

MAIN STORY

• A long time ago, a race of humans on a distant planet found the Voyager, a large sphere that gave them wonderful progress for their civilization, but was completely silent in terms of guidance as they grew.
• Then, they found the Veil, an object of “darkness” in contrast to the Light of the Traveler. It was structure and stillness and a different kind of power. The race sought to unite both the Traveler and the Veil, which they believed would form a perfect entity. The traveler refused this and left the planet, causing destruction.
• Summarizing all their power, the civilization was formed into a single being to follow the Traveler, the Witness, who aims to finish what the civilization started to create the Final Form, the perfect tranquility and preservation of all life without much of anything in it. truly “living.” She endlessly chased the Traveler with a black fleet of pyramid ships and finally caught him on the ground.
• The Witness, using the Veil and our Guardian’s connection to the Traveler, cut a hole in the Traveler and entered. We haven’t been able to follow until recently where we sent the new Guardian Crow through the portal using a combination of Veil energy and Wish Dragon magic. Now, we’re following him, and that’s where the events of The Final Shape begin. We are inside the heart of the Witness Traveler currently being corrupted as it attempts to form the Final Form. We, the Guardians, empowered by the Traveler, are tasked with stopping him and saving the entire universe.

CHARACTER SPECIFIC STORIES

• Crow was once a man named Uldren, who killed our friend Cayde-6 and Hunter Vanguard. We killed Uldren in revenge, but he was resurrected by a ghost and became a Guardian named Raven with his memory erased. He’s slowly getting those memories back, but he’s still cute. Now, Crow may have been tricked by a Dragon Wish into wishing he had never killed Cayde, and that may be why he arrives at the Pale Heart and finds Cayde there, who doesn’t know how he got there. there or why he is alive. . But the Wish Dragon’s wishes are often the monkey’s paws, so there may be some trouble coming. The concept of desire has not yet been confirmed, but much is implied by recent discoveries.
• The leader of the last City, Commander Zavala will come with us on the Voyager. Centuries ago, he had a son who was killed by the Fallen in one of the first conflicts with that species. This caused a rift between him and his wife, who separated from him and eventually died of old age as he was immortal as a Guardian. The latest Final Shape trailer shows that the Witness is specifically trying to corrupt him. We don’t know exactly how, but I believe it may have something to do with getting his family back (as I’m not sure what else could tempt him that way).

• The surviving Hive gods are hanging around, but we don’t know what/if they’ll play a role in The Final Shape’s story. But just in case, we should know that Hive rogue Savathun, now a Guardian, has been resurrected and is currently doing…something…somewhere and she’s had such a pivotal role in Destiny’s story it’s hard to believe that it will not appear at some points. Meanwhile, her sister Xivu Arath is a servant of the Witness, but has recently been made mortal by a ritual from Eris Morn, our clever witch friend.
• Our greatest non-human allies are Mithrax, leader of House Light, a friendly faction of the Fallen who follow the Traveler and aid our cause. And then there is Caiatl, the current leader of the Cabal with whom we have a lasting alliance after Xivu Arath destroyed their world. She may or may not have a crush on Zavala. We know that they will help us in this fight to some extent, as seen in the trailers.
• Xivu Arathi’s hive, the Witness-controlled Taken, and a faction of the Vex are the main forces of the Witnesses, but we’ve also learned that he’s created a new race based on a dead world population, the Lubrae, making experiments with light and dark. They are the Dread, and we will be fighting them for the first time in this expansion.

These are the basics? Again, a very short summary and not for players who know absolutely nothing about the story, but I hope this helps. See you on Tuesday.
